Progressive Scan Transfer Machines



Application:

For copying film to a computer file with Progressive Scanning. This means that each frame of film becomes one frame of video, with the video at the same frame rate that the film is run through and with Field 1 dominant.

This transfer is in most cases not suitable for viewing by the public as-is, as it is considerably speeded up compared to the original lower filming rate. The filming rate

must be re-established by computerized editing, repeatedly duplicating frames or fields to lengthen the running time so the overall speed is reduced to a proper viewing speed. This speed manipulation is out of our field of expertise so we are not recommending any particular brands or techniques of hardware or software.

Available Models. Most models of TCS TVT-8 equipment can be supplied with single speed Progressive Scan in place of the normal speed or speeds. We have successfully made Progressive versions of the TVT-S8 and TVT-R8 machines with both automatic threading (A or J type) and manual threading (B or M type.) Thus far we have done this for PAL video operation at 25 FPS running. NTSC video operation at 29.97 FPS may be feasible but thus far we have not received any orders. The 29.97 speed is of course substantially faster than the mechanisms were originally designed to run.

Outputs. The standard outputs remain Composite video and Y/C S-video. For units that are equipped with 3CCD cameras, we can give Component outputs instead of both of the Composite and Y/C outputs. This can be either RGB or Y, B-Y, R-Y (same as Y, Pb, Pr.) Component outputs are through three BNC jacks.

For the basic features, please refer to the individual catalog pages hyperlinked below. Appearance is basically identical to the basic model except the Speed knob is missing, or if present is inactive.

 For all, please specify NTSC video or PAL video. NTSC units normally have a footage counter, while PAL machines can have a meters counter. Kindly state your preference.

Component outputs are available with 3CCD cameras for an additional $100. Kindly indicate whether you want RGB or
Y, B-Y, R-Y (same as Y Pb Pr) signals. The Composite and Y/C outputs are not available with this option.
