exposure, a footage counter, heavy duty construction, and other features. No hard to find expensive light bulbs to buy.
Direct Imaging Picture Quality. A CCD video pickup, a special macro lens system and our exclusive technology assures a sharp, steady, flicker-free image. Video outputs are standard video, also Y/C (S-Video) for optimum DVD and Mini-DV quality. No flicker adjustment knob is needed. The exposure level can be set fully manually if desired, or two automatic modes are provided. A 3CCD camera version rated at 800 lines resolution is now offered.
Crystal Controlled Running Speed. Transfer film to your DVD or MiniDV recorder in real time, with no computer needed. Reel capacity is 600 feet (180 meters.) A high-speed rewind is provided and it works without running the mechanism.
Frame By Frame Scanning in 1CCD and standard 3CCD models. The TVT-8 standard B and M versions scan one film frame at a time, in real time while each frame is stationary in the gate, so each video field contains information from just one film picture. Electronic shuttering, instead of a physical shutter, gives absolutely zero flicker in the video.
The single speed Type B machines run at 19.98 FPS for NTSC video and 16-2/3 FPS for PAL. Single speed operation is recommended as this design gives the highest light efficiency, meaning the widest correction range for dark film. The much lower average current in the LED light emitter means cooler running and longer life. Most users seldom or never use the other two speeds of the M Type machines. For NTSC, many users prefer to transfer at 19.98 FPS instead of 17.126 for smoother motion rendering since the "pulldown" is 3-3 instead of 3-4 thereby preventing motion "judder" and a higher frame rate always looks smoother in any case. For most home movies, speeding up the film a bit, instead of slowing it down, is doing a favor to the future viewers of the video!
The 3-speed standard M models run at 8.563, 17.126 and 25.689 FPS for the NTSC version and 8-1/3, 16-2/3 and 25 FPS for the PAL video model. The 25.689 NTSC speed may give slight blurring and is unsuited for critical use.
Absolutely Correct 18 FPS Running Speed in 3CCD Deluxe Model. Our exclusive technology gives a precise 18.000 FPS crystal controlled speed. This is the exact standard speed of the overwhelming majority of home movie cameras. So no apologies are needed to your customers about the speeds being off! Since 18 does not divide evenly into either the 59.94 or 50 Hz video field rate, film frames are blended together. This is not visible in normal viewing (at least by us) although it can be seen if the video is still-framed and viewed one frame at a time. An additional 24 FPS speed is also available. Changing between the two speeds requires a programming change via an on-screen menu seen on your video monitor. 9 FPS is used for a threading check and is not usable for viewing or transfer. Available for either NTSC or PAL.
Maximum Film Safety. A two-tooth pulldown claw distributes stress for minimal perforation wear. For typical home movie films with a lot of bad splices that might not all be caught in the film preparation for transfer stage, the TVT-8 B and M models are the best choice. Sprocketless drive, so there are no loops to be lost and no shredding of film after a bad splice. If a bad splice sticks in the film gate, just immediately give the film a quick downwards yank below the gate to free it, with no need to stop the transfer. Quick and easy manual threading. Film is easily removed in mid-reel if desired.
Reverse running threading change: When running in reverse, the film must be re-threaded to bypass the two rubber retarder posts which allow the film to move freely only forward, otherwise the friction becomes excessive and damage may result.
Reel restrictions: Recommended reel sizes are 400 and 600 feet on a modern large 2.4" (6cm) center hub light weight plastic reel. For running from smaller, unbalanced or heavier reels, or smaller center hub reels, it may help to pull the Supply reel outwards on the spindle and place a Nylon washer (supplied) over the keyways so the keyways are not engaged with the slots in the reel hub. This will reduce the running drag by not having to turn the Supply reel motor, and give better results in terms of image steadiness. Reels with warped flanges that pinch the film cannot be used. If your preference is for automatic threading instead, with the ability to accept nearly any size or type of reel, with film in excellent condition, we offer the TVT-8 A and J models also.
Footage Counter. No customer arguments if you can write an exact figure on their bill!
Heavy Duty Construction. If you think you might want to upgrade your 1CCD machine later to 3CCD, let us know when ordering and we can build it on a 3CCD-friendly main front panel.
Detailed specifications can be seen here. Larger picture of 1CCD model can be seen here. Larger picture of 3CCD model is similar to photo here except sound components and sprockets are absent. B Type machines have no Speed knob, or if present it is inactive.

Want to do computer editing instead of transfer direct to DVD? Progressive Scan option.
Component outputs are available with 3CCD cameras for an additional $100. Kindly indicate whether you want RGB or
Y, B-Y, R-Y (same as Y Pb Pr) signals. The Composite and Y/C outputs are not available with this option.

Film Preparation note: Before copying film on any telecine equipment, it is recommended that the film be first inspected and defective splices and damaged sections removed. It should then be cleaned and lubricated. Directions and sources of supplies are given in the instructions. Our suggestions for splicing are here.
